Wolfard graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in General Studies. He later completed the High School Strength Coach Certification through the NHSSCA.

Rod Wolfard began his coaching career as an assistant helping to start the football program at Southmoore High School in 2008. In his and the program's second year, the SaberCats were 11-2 and reached the Class 6A semifinals. In 2012, Wolfard left Southmoore HS and went to Oklahoma Baptist University with head coach Chris Jensen to again start a football program. As Director of Football Operations he helped reboot the Bison program which had their first season since 1940 in the fall of 2013. During his time coaching at Christian Heritage Academy, the Crusaders were Class A State Runner-up in 2018. He returned to his alma mater Putnam City West HS in 2022 to help rebuild a program that hadn’t won a game in three seasons. In 2022, they won three games, and the program made the playoffs the following year. In April 2023, Wolfard became the Offensive Line Coach / Run Game Coordinator at Deer Creek High School in Oklahoma.

Wolfard has coached numerous players that have gone on to play at all levels of college football and the NFL.

A native of Oklahoma City, OK, Wolfard and his wife Stevanna have three children - Faith and husband Creed, Jack and wife Innia, and Luke and fiancé Sydney.
